NOTE: this story takes place between book 6 and book 7.
Lilly French had had enough of her friends. All Emma and the others ever seemed to talk about lately was who was peeing in what. Emma and Susie wore Pull-Ups for fun, Izzy wears Pampers because she can’t stay dry at night, and some crazy foster lady has Nicole waddling around in Huggies somewhere.
Sure, she had an accident and wore a diaper in case it happened again. But that was ONE time! It wasn’t something she planned to do regularly and it wasn’t something she enjoyed. But then again, Emma did talk her into wearing a diaper again on a sleepover. However, Lilly hated the feeling of the warm pee against her skin. The diaper was a bit soft and fluffy, and it made her feel secure and cuddly on the inside… But that was beside the point.
Lilly didn’t want to be around anyone who was constantly talking about wetting themselves for fun. She turned to the other half of the girls in their class; the sporty ones. Brittany and Courtney were the kings of the soccer team, having just led the Orange Team to the play-offs.
They were normal.
“So,” Courtney asked, “Are you going Trick-or-Treating with Emma and the others?” The soccer team had entirely accepted Lilly as their new friend when she randomly sat at their lunch table one day.
“Oh, no!” Lilly declared. “That is so babyish. I’m not a little kid like they are, I don’t even own crayons.”
“Oh,” Brittany said, “Because if you weren’t we were going to invite you to come with us.”
“Oh,” Lilly said, realizing her mistake.
“And then we have a sleepover at my house,” Brittany continued.
“You don’t have to come if you don’t want.” Courtney said.
“Oh, no no no!” Lilly waved her hands. “I am so there! I just meant that I needed to… ask my mom.”
The girls both stared at her.
“I mean…” Lilly stumbled. “Not.”
“I’m going as Lulu,” Courtney said, “From the Journal of a Geeky Girl series.”
“Cool,” Lilly said, realizing they would probably ask her what she was going to be next.
“And I’m going as AJ Ferguson, the race car driver,” Brittany said. “What about you?”
“Uh...,” Lilly hadn’t even thought about it. Costumes in her family were usually put together from leftovers from past years or bought at a cheap price the week before. In truth, Lilly really wanted to go as Sasami Yugito, her favorite character on Monster Story, the best show ever. But she felt as though her new friends might look down on her if she mentioned a show that was for seven year olds. After all, they were nine now and that meant you read chapter books, not Japanese cartoons.
“Hello?” Brittany asked.
Lilly realized that she got lost in thought thinking about her Halloween costume, and then was wondering what Season 2 of Monster Story would be about. She heard rumors it was just a brand new cast with new monsters, but she really hoped it was the original kids, just a year later.
“Well,” Lilly said, “My costume is… A surprise!”
Courtney and Brittany accepted that answer. Lunch was pretty much over. Lilly spent the rest of the school day thinking about what kind of costume she could get. The good ones would probably be all already taken. There must’ve been something she could do.

Lilly was dropped off outside of Brittany's house, where she met the rest of the soccer girls all in costumes. Brittany was indeed dressed just like AJ Ferguson with the racing jacket and everything. Courtney was dressed just like the Journal of a Geeky Girl herself, Lulu Stevens. She basically looked the same, but with curly pigtails and… That was pretty much it.
“Hi,” Courtney said, “You look… Interesting.”
“Thanks,” Lilly said. She was dressed up as a witch, but it wasn’t exactly a witch costume. It was one of her mother’s old, dark blue dresses paired with a floppy hat that was barely pointy.
Lilly could see it on her new friend’s faces. This was obviously not a costume bought at a store, nor was it made at home. It was thrown together at the last minute. She didn’t even have a broom or a magic wand or anything. Lily didn’t even like witches.
“So,” Brittany said, “Everyone is here. Let’s go.”
In between the first few houses, the girls simply chatted about their days and their costumes. As time went on, conversation was engulfed by favorite and least favorite types of candies, which led to the girls trading candy every ten seconds.
“So, Lilly,” Courtney asked, “Why don’t you like your old friends anymore?”
Lilly shrugged. “It’s not like I hate them,” she said. “Lately they’ve all just been… Busy.”
“Even Rena?” Brittany asked. “We always knew she was like between our two groups, but lately she’s been hanging out with your side more.”
This didn’t make sense to Lilly. It had seemed like Rena was against diapers and associated activities more than she was. She was adamant to rescue Nicole and shocked to learn about the others. And as far as Lilly knew, Rena hadn’t peed as much of a drop in her panties since she was a baby. And she didn't seem like she was planning too.
All of this talk suddenly made Lilly realize something; she really, really had to pee.
It hit her like a train, coming out of nowhere when she didn’t even feel it for the first hour of trick or treating. She didn’t particularly have a lot to drink at dinner, but she suddenly felt like if she didn’t find a bathroom soon there were going to be negative consequences on her new social life.
“Uhm,” Lilly piped up, “How much longer?”
“Getting tired already?” Courtney asked.
Lilly shook her head, “I’m just really excited to get to the sleepover and start eating all of this candy!”
“We’ve been out for an hour,” Brittany said, “My parents aren’t expecting us for another two. and they hate it when we come home early and ruin their alone time or whatever.”
“Oh,” Lilly said, squeezing her thighs together.
After another half hour of houses, Lilly was growing desperate. Even though they stopped at several houses of family friends who would welcome her in in a second, She knew she couldn’t even mention it to her new friends. The reason she left her old friends was because of very similar ideas.
Suddenly, Lilly realized that they were being followed.

Suddenly, Lilly realized that they were being followed.
Something in the corner of Lilly's eye had been bothering her. Soon, the other girls began to notice it as well. They stopped in the middle of a long sidewalk. They heard the leaves rustle.
“What was that?” Brittany turned around.
Courtney looked around, “Is someone following us?”
The girls all stood close together, huddle in fear. “Where is Monica?” Courtney asked.
They all looked over to where Monica was bending over and picking up a piece of candy.
“MONICA!”
They all yelled as a man in a mask picked her up with one han. Monica screamed in fear as everyone realized that the man wasn’t wearing a mask; his head was an actual skull, with dark glowing eyes inside.
A torrent of pee escaped between Monica’s legs, dripping all the way down her kitty cat costume.
The skull headed man turned to the other girls. Hannah and Alyssa fell to the ground, crying in fear as large puddles formed around them. The skull headed man picked them up and swallowed them each whole.
“Run!” Courtney said.
She, Brittany and Lilly turned around, but there were more monsters behind them. Ogre faced men and snake headed woman. Lilly dashed into the bushes as the other two girls unleashed a gallon of pee into their pants as they were eaten by the monsters.
Lilly suddenly realized that since the other girls had wet themselves too, there would be no shame in her letting it go at this point. Plus the others were dead anyway.
Crouching behind the bush, Lilly pulled her dress up above her knees so only her underwear would get wet. As the pressure on her bladder turned into relief in the form of a puddle, Lilly looked up and realized that no one else was around. The monsters had vanished. Why hadn’t they come after her?
And then, as reality began to sink in, Lilly sat straight up in Brittany’s bed. She looked around, heart racing, as Brittany and Courtney slept next to her and the other girls in sleeping bags on the floor.
Lilly cursed her imagination and the Gatorades the other girls had made her drink when they got home. She peeked under the blanket, the puddle spread out from her bottom and was already visibly showing up on both Brittany and Courtney’s pajamas.
In that moment, Lilly realized her friendship with the soccer team was over. She honestly didn’t mind. When they weren’t talking about candy or costumes, they were talking about soccer. Looking around Brittany’s dark bedroom, Lilly could see nothing but soccer trophies and soccer balls.
Lilly didn’t even care what was going to happen to her new friends now. She didn’t care about soccer. She wanted to talk about cartoons with cute, cuddly monsters and giant robots and super heroes. And, given her current situation, Lilly felt more interested in wearing diapers than shin guards.
Lilly snuck out of the bed. She stole a lot of the candy from each girl’s collection and added it to her own before rolling back into bed. She shrugged, and empty the rest of her bladder into her pajamas and Brittany’s bed. It’s not like it was going to make a difference.
Thinking of how her Halloween had been, Lilly realized who her real friends were. She knew how much Emma was going to enjoy the story, how much Mimi will love splitting the candy, and how much fun she would’ve had if she had gone trick or treating with them instead. While it wasn’t her favorite Halloween on record, it went down as the one where Lilly realized just who her true friends were.
“What was that?” Brittany turned around.
